The 212th batch of the Catch Them Young (CTY)- a Value Education Programme was successfully conducted on 24th September 2026 at Swami RamakrishnanandaHall, Vivekananda Cultural Centre (VCC), Vivekananda House Campus, Chennai. The programme welcomed 85 First Year & Second Year B. Com from Guru Nanak College for an inspiring and transformative learning experience based on the timeless ideals of Swami Vivekananda.

The programme commenced with the students reporting at 9:15 a.m., followed by an introduction to the vision and activities of the Vivekananda Cultural Centre and Vivekananda Illam. The participants were familiarized with the Centre's mission of empowering youth through value-based education, character building, leadership development, and holistic personality enhancement inspired by the teachings of Swami Vivekananda.

The first session, "swami Vivekananda Style of leadership," was delivered by Smt.Krishna veni. Through inspiring incidents from the life of Swami Vivekananda, she highlighted the essential qualities of an effective leader, including self-confidence, responsibility, discipline, empathy, courage, and the spirit of selfless service. She encouraged the students to cultivate leadership from within by developing strong character, clear vision, and the determination to make a positive impact on society.

133rd Anniversary Celebration of Universal Brotherhood Day at Vivekanandar Illam, Chennai

On 11th Sep 2026, the 133rd Anniversary Celebration of Universal Brotherhood Day was commemorated with devotion, inspiration and patriotic fervour at Vivekanandar Illam, Chennai, the historic place where the message of Swami Vivekananda continues to inspire generations.

The programme brought together revered Swamijis, students, faculty members, volunteers and devotees to reflect upon the timeless message of Swami Vivekananda's historic Chicago Address and its profound relevance to the world today.

A Reverential Beginning

The celebrations commenced with a solemn flower offering to Swami Vivekananda at the portico of Vivekanandar Illam by the revered Swamijis of Sri Ramakrishna Math, Chennai.

This was followed by Arati and the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by the Swamijis, accompanied by the chanting of Shanti Mantras, creating an atmosphere of peace, devotion and spiritual harmony.

The spirit of patriotism was beautifully expressed through a patriotic group song presented by three students of M.O.P. Vaishnav College, setting an inspiring tone for the proceedings.

The gathering was formally welcomed by Swami Mahadevananda ji Maharaj, Director, Vivekananda Cultural Centre, who introduced the significance of the occasion and highlighted the enduring relevance of Swami Vivekananda's message of universal brotherhood.

The Special Address was delivered by Revered Swami Dhyanagamyananda ji Maharaj, Secretary, Vivekananda College, Chennai, on the theme:

“Universal Brotherhood and Its Relevance in Our Lives Today”

The address served as a meaningful reminder that Swami Vivekananda's vision transcended barriers of religion, caste, nationality and culture. His call for harmony, mutual respect and the recognition of the divinity inherent in every human being remains particularly relevant in today's rapidly changing and interconnected world.

A major highlight of the celebration was the presentation by students from Guru Nanak College, M.O.P. Vaishnav College and Thiruthangal Nadar College on “Swami Vivekananda's historic Chicago Address and its relevance today”.

Through their presentations, the students explored the powerful ideas expressed by Swami Vivekananda at the World's Parliament of Religions in Chicago and reflected on how those ideals can guide society towards greater understanding, tolerance, harmony and peaceful coexistence.

The enthusiastic participation of young students added a vibrant and contemporary dimension to the celebration.

The programme witnessed the participation of students from several prominent educational institutions in Chennai:

  • Lady Willingdon College
  • M.O.P. Vaishnav College
  • Chellammal Women's College
  • Bharathi Women's College
  • Guru Nanak College
  • Thiruthangal Nadar College

A total of 287 students participated in the programme, accompanied by 7 faculty members. Their enthusiastic presence reflected the continued interest among the younger generation in understanding and carrying forward Swami Vivekananda's message.

The event was also supported by 12 Vivekananda Youth Forum volunteers and Math devotees, whose dedicated efforts contributed significantly to the smooth conduct of the programme.

Following the presentations and a tea break, the gathering received the Benedictory Address from Revered President Swami Satyajnanananda ji Maharaj, Adhyaksha, Sri Ramakrishna Math, Chennai. Followed by this there was Question & Answer session open to all gathering, and it was very enkindling, thoughful and enlightening.

The occasion also included the felicitation of the dignitaries, participating institutions and the students who contributed to the group singing. The felicitation served as an expression of gratitude and appreciation for the collective participation that made the celebration meaningful and memorable.

The programme concluded with the Concluding Remarks and Vote of Thanks delivered by Revered Swami Raghunayakananda ji Maharaj, Manager, Sri Ramakrishna Math, Chennai.

As part of the programme, the participating students had the opportunity to visit the Vivekanandar Illam Museum. The visit provided them with an opportunity to learn more about Swami Vivekananda's life, teachings and his historic connection with Chennai.

For many of the students, the museum visit offered a deeper and more personal understanding of the life and legacy of the great monk whose message continues to inspire millions across the world.

Prasadam was provided to all the participants as the programme concluded.

The 133rd Anniversary Celebration of Universal Brotherhood Day was not merely a commemoration of a historic event; it was a renewed call to embrace the ideals that Swami Vivekananda proclaimed before the world more than a century ago.

His message of universal acceptance, harmony, mutual respect and the oneness of humanity remains as powerful and relevant today as it was when he addressed the gathering in Chicago.

As students, teachers, volunteers, devotees and well-wishers came together at Vivekanandar Illam, the celebration reaffirmed a timeless truth: the ideal of universal brotherhood is not merely a message to be remembered—it is a value to be lived.

The gathering thus became a fitting tribute to Swami Vivekananda and his enduring vision of a world united by love, understanding and spiritual harmony.

Om Ganeshaya Namah – Clay Sculpting Workshop 2026
The “Om Ganeshaya Namah” Clay Sculpting Workshop was conducted at the Vivekananda Cultural Centre (VCC) as a celebration of creativity, devotion and the spirit of Ganesh Chaturthi. The workshop received an enthusiastic response, with 72 participants taking part across two batches.

The workshop was led by renowned artist Shri. Lovely Karupayya, who guided participants through the process of creating their own Lord Ganesha idols using clay.

The morning batch, held from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., had 37 participants, while the evening batch, conducted from 3:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., had 35 participants. Participants of different age groups came together to explore their creativity and experience the joy of sculpting with their own hands.

Sessions began with prayers, followed by an introduction to the workshop and the instructor. Shri. Lovely Karupayya then demonstrated the sculpting process step-by-step, guiding participants as they carefully shaped the clay into beautiful Ganesha idols.

The workshop was not merely an art activity but also a meaningful devotional experience. As the participants completed their idols, they offered flowers to their lovingly created Ganesha. Devotional bhajans filled the atmosphere, creating a serene and spiritually uplifting environment.

The joy and satisfaction on the faces of the participants reflected the beauty of creating something with their own hands while expressing their devotion to Lord Ganesha. The sessions concluded with group photographs, followed by the distribution of prasadam to all participants.

The instructor was happily surprised that the participants, despite having no formal art training, managed to sculpt clay Ganeshas in just two and a half hours. He commended their work and encouraged them to continue practicing, emphasizing the psychological benefits of the art. Additionally, Director Maharaj urged everyone to wholeheartedly integrate this ancient cultural heritage into their daily lives. By passing these traditions down to future generations, he explained, they would deeply enrich both their secular and spiritual lives.

With 72 enthusiastic participants across two batches, the “Om Ganeshaya Namah” Clay Sculpting Workshop was a memorable celebration that beautifully brought together art, devotion, creativity and togetherness in the spirit of Ganesh Chaturthi.
